NFIB, Business Council, Unshackle Upstate endorse Senator Seward’s re-election bid

ONEONTA, 10/18/18 – New York’s leading small business associations the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the Business Council of New York State (BCNYS) Political Action Committee,  along with the pro-taxpayer coalition Unshackle Upstate have all endorsed State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I/Ref-Oneonta) in his campaign for re-election.

In accepting the endorsements Senator Seward said, “I am extremely pleased to receive the backing of NFIB, the Business Council, and Unshackle Upstate and look forward to my continued partnership with these key organizations as we work together to make New York more affordable and create new opportunities for growth.”

In a letter endorsing Senator Seward, NFIB New York State Director Greg Biryla said, “We look forward to the opportunity to work with you in Albany to address the urgent needs of reducing the costs of doing business and income taxes, easing regulatory barriers, and strengthening the economy.”

Founded in 1943, NFIB gives small and independent business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business.

In announcing candidate endorsements, BCNYS President and CEO Heather C. Briccetti Esq., said “With pro-growth, pro-jobs messaging under attack from all sides, it is critically important that New York taxpayers elect lawmakers who understand the role business plays in our state’s economic health. The lawmakers and candidates endorsed by The Business Council PAC have demonstrated a firm commitment to the issues most important to our members.”

The BCNYCS is made up of roughly 2,400 member companies, local chambers of commerce and professional and trade associations.

In announcing candidate endorsements, Unshackle Upstate Executive Director Michael Kracker said, “At Unshackle Upstate we believe in supporting candidates who support the issues that matter to the Upstate economy. We’re proud to endorse Senator Seward because of his commitment to reining in state spending, easing the tax burden on Upstate families and improving New York’s harsh business climate.”

Unshackle Upstate is a non-partisan, pro-taxpayer, pro-economic growth and pro-Upstate education and advocacy coalition made up of business and trade organizations from across Upstate New York.

Unshackle Upstate recently released its 2018 Legislative Scorecards as a tool for taxpayers to use when considering which candidates to support. Senator Seward received a score of 90 out of 100.

“I have won approval for policies that are making New York more affordable for businesses and families alike.  Workers comp reforms, tax cuts for small businesses and manufacturers, and lower cost electricity are helping our job creators.  A landmark middle class tax cut, increased education aid, and the STAR property tax relief program are good for upstate families.  There is still work to do and I will continue to fight for our shared values and against reckless tax and spend policies that would hurt our part of the state,” Seward concluded.
