ONEONTA, 10/10/18 – The Civil Service Employees Association, the New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF), and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSME) have each announced their endorsement of State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I/Ref-Oneonta) in his campaign for re-election.

In accepting the endorsements Senator Seward said, “The workers represented by AFSCME, CSEA, and PEF are hard at work across the state in the fields of education, health and child care, and local government.  I am proud to have the support of these men and women who make our lives better and will continue to take up their concerns in Albany.

“Ending unnecessary or outdated state mandates that handcuff businesses, local governments, and schools is among my top priorities.  Doing so will protect current jobs and help create new opportunities for growth and expansion.   I will also continue to advocate for needed property tax relief to help hard-working individuals provide for their families and make New York more affordable.”

In his endorsement letter CSEA President Danny Donohue said, “At a time when the rights and benefits of working people are under attack across the nation, it is vitally important that we have elected officials who will partner with us in our fight for what is right. We need elected officials who will stand up for the right to organize and the right to collectively bargain. We need elected officials who will fight for good jobs, good benefits, and strong communities. And we need elected officials who will never quit on the working men and women who make our state great. The CSEA is proud to endorse you because you hold these same values and have proven so time and time again.”

In his endorsement letter PEF President Wayne Spence said, “We know that you appreciate and value the work performed by public employees in your district and around the state. You also understand the needs of working men and women and their families and support the programs and services that address these needs.”

In his endorsement letter AFSCME Political and Legislative Director Brian McDonnell said, “This endorsement is based on your support of issues of importance to public and non-profit employees. As a State Senator, you have been an advocate for working families and the essential public services that New Yorkers rely on.”

“One of New York State’s top assets is our workforce. We rely on the people who punch the clock day in and day out and I will continue to fight for legislation that puts them first,” Seward concluded.
